EMC Simulation for Automotive and Vehicle Platforms

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is a critical design challenge for modern vehicles, where high-speed electronics, power converters, sensors, and wireless systems must coexist within tightly confined and electrically complex environments. Efficient time-domain full-wave simulation enables engineers to analyze these interactions early in the design process, long before physical testing in costly chambers.

Vehicle-level EMC problems are inherently broadband and transient, driven by fast switching events, cable currents, and structural resonances that span from low frequencies through RF and into the mmWave regime. Time-domain full-wave analysis naturally captures this behavior in a single simulation, allowing engineers to study conducted and radiated emissions, susceptibility, and coupling mechanisms across the entire vehicle.

Accurate cable modeling is especially important in automotive EMC, as wiring harnesses often act as dominant antennas and coupling paths. The solver supports detailed multi-conductor cable representations routed throughout the vehicle, including terminations, shields, connectors, and grounding points. This makes it possible to predict common-mode currents, crosstalk, and coupling between cables and vehicle structures with high fidelity.

To bridge simulation and compliance testing, the same models can be evaluated in virtual reverberation and anechoic chamber environments. This enables direct correlation with standard automotive EMC test setups, including bulk current injection, radiated immunity, and emission measurements. Engineers can assess shielding effectiveness, filter placement, grounding strategies, and enclosure design before hardware is built.

By combining efficient time-domain full-wave simulation with realistic vehicle geometries, cable networks, and test environments, the platform provides a powerful workflow for identifying EMC risks early, reducing costly redesigns, and accelerating certification of automotive and transportation systems.
